An Occupational Therapist at Heritage Christian Services has the primary responsibility of assisting individuals to improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments.
To provide occupational therapy evaluations and treatments.
To work cooperatively with the Agency’s Physical Therapists in new equipment evaluations, and maintenance of equipment that is necessary for the individuals within the programs.
To recommend and facilitate purchases of equipment necessary to carry out occupational therapy treatment.
To provide supervision of COTA.
To maintain communication with individual and his/her guardians, staff, Residence Manager, Day Hab Manager and Administration.
To work with and carry out the recommendations of the treatment team.
To provide consultative services to Heritage programs as requested by an individual’s doctor, service coordinator, nurse or Residence Manager or to recommend treatment options if appropriate.
To provide staff training and in-services in the areas of ROM, home exercise programs, adaptive equipment, sensory programming, transfers, ADLs.
Attend medical appointments with residents to maximize the benefit of the appointment when deemed appropriate by the therapist and other treatment team members.
Attend staff meetings, ISP meetings and treatment team meetings as appropriate.
Responsible for continuing education.
To provide supervision and education services to local college occupational therapy students as approved by administration.
Must have a B.S. level degree in Occupational Therapy or higher and a New York State OT license
Prior experience with people with developmental disabilities is preferable
A valid NYS driver’s license that is in compliance with Agency standards
