Overview

The positive support specialist has the responsibility to be a role model and provide positive support assistance to people and their direct support staff, in a variety of locations.

Responsibilities

  1. Supporting people through challenging times, including implementing various support plans (behavior supports plans, behavior guidelines, and monitoring plans.)
  2. Providing staff with support and constructive feedback and onsite education, as needed, about their implementation of various support plans.
  3. Providing direct observations while on shift to assist behavior intervention specialist in behavior support plan development, implementation, and modification.
  4. To act as a liaison, as needed, between the assigned behavior specialist and the site during times when the behavior specialist is unable to be on site.
  5. Providing support and modeling to direct support staff on how to write thorough behavior progress notes.
  6. Review behavior support documentation and identify trends, in conjunction with the behavior intervention specialist.
  7. Participate in and contribute to behavior support team meetings.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a direct support professional preferred
  • Current certification in positive supports and SCIP-R
  • Ability to assist people who require different levels of support
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts in multiple locations
  • Physical ability to effectively implement proper lifting and transfer techniques
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge
