  • Overview

    Working under the overall direction of the Director of the Employment Alliance, the Career Devlopment Specialist will provide specialized job development services, with a focus on those that are identified as hard to place.  To support the mission, vision and values of Heritage Christian Services, Inc.

    Responsibilities

     

    1. Work as part of a team to support individuals with obtaining meaningful employment. The focus is on suporting people who are identified as hard to place, including but not limited to: those who are underemployed and/or seeking career advancement, students/youth who may not be otherwise funded for job development, those with limiting personal factors (geography, narrow scope of availability/interest), those who may need additional guidance with factors such as benefits and transportation
    2. Build relationships with businesses, working towards employment opportunities for people receiving services
    3. Attend networking/ community events to grow relationships with businesses
    4. Use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques to assist the individual with being successful in his/her job search and employment
    5. Work with the person receiving services, employer and co-workers, to help them build good working relationships
    6. Work within both OPWDD and ACCES VR systems, including service provision and required documentation
    7. Identify and implement any needed safeguards at each job site, to ensure the safety of the person receiving services
    8. Maintain communication with the person receiving services, and members of his/her support team, and Director of Employment Alliance, as needed
    9. Maintain the privacy of the individual’s personal information in accordance with HIPAA, including storage of documentation during non-working hours
    10. Attend all scheduled training required by Heritage Christian Services’. To participate in staff meetings and staff training sessions Implement new procedures as communicated by Director of Employment Alliance

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required, experience working with people with disabilities is preferred
    • Experience working in a field other than human services is preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license that is in compliance with Heritage Christian Services’ motor vehicle record standards, and reliable transportation to and from work, which includes the greater Buffalo area.
    • Flxibility with work schedule is required to meet the needs of businesses and individuals using services
    • Ability to work independently is required
    • Ability to use cell phone and texting is required. Ability to use electronic documentation and record keeping
    • The ability to effectively communicate with people of all abilities to further assure their growth and development is required
