We're hiring recreational assistants to support children with intellectual and developmental disabilities at a newly established After-School Program. These positions are in high demand so you’ll be developing a skillset that will always be essential. The schedule for this 20 hour Part-Time position is Monday-Friday from 2pm-6pm.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide a program environment that supports each individual based on a person-centered philosophy.
  2. Provide assistance with the primary health and personal care needed by respite participants. This includes lifting and transferring individuals who use a wheelchair and providing assistance as needed.
  3. Provide care and services as outlined in the Respite Application and Respite Safeguards.
  4. Perform housekeeping tasks as designated by Program Manager. These may include snack and drink preparation, cleaning, organizing and other housekeeping tasks necessary to ensure the smooth running of the program.
  5. Support people served with facilitating a lifestyle of health and wellness including his or her individualized dietary needs.
  6. Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of each individual’s personal information in accordance with HIPAA at all times, including storage of documentation during non-working hours.
  7. Complete all scheduled trainings required by Heritage Christian Services. Participate in staff meetings and other staff training sessions.
  8. Convey information to Program Manager regarding individuals in the respite program. Assist the team with addressing these issues.
  9. Familiar with fire and emergency procedures and to assist with fire drills and related documentation.
  10. Assume responsibilities when requested, including assisting with the recreational aspects of the individual and program.
  11. Assure the safe transportation of students to the program using personal or agency vehicle. If personal vehicle is used, employee will be reimbursed at current travel reimbursement rate as determined by the agency each year.  To assist in proper up-keep of the agency vehicle when used.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School diploma or high school equivalency; college experience preferred.
  • Ability and temperament to work effectively with children and young adults with disabilities is required.
  • Experience with person(s) with developmental disabilities and a college background or degree is preferable.
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, have ability to effectively communicate with respite participants and their families.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge.
  • A valid, New York state driver’s license that is compliant with Heritage Christian Services, Inc. motor vehicle record standards.
  • Physical ability to lift and assist respite participants with any needed personal care as needed.
