The director of residential and day services is pivotal in leading residential and day habilitation programs to provide meaningful person-centered services. Has administrative oversight for the residential IRA’s and day habilitation programs in the region assigned. Responsible for the coordination of services and assuring records, services, and supports are maintained in compliance with all program, agency standards, and all applicable State and Federal regulations. Supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of Heritage Christian Services, Inc.

  1. Oversees the operations of the residential IRA’s and day habilitation programs in the region assigned; which includes providing quality services and meeting Heritage Christian Services expectations and all applicable State and Federal regulations. 
  2. Along with the Regional Vice president; develops and executes strategic vision and direction for the department, in alignment with Agency strategic map. The includes setting department goals, creating plans around those goals and utilizing agency platforms to show, measure and evaluate the work.  Responsible for carrying out projects in the strategy map and for ensuring ownership and involvement with teammates supervised.
  3. Is committed to creating, maintaining and enhancing a welcoming, inclusive, diverse and equitable experience and environment.
  4. Provides ongoing supervision, evaluation, training and coaching to the Associate Directors of residential and day services. Promotes a culture of continuous learning and consistently seeks out development opportunities for the Associate Director(s) of traditional services.
  5. Responsible for working with other departments to develop a systems approach to collecting and measuring key metrics and data to inform operations, Agency standards and business practices.
  6. Is responsible for having an intimate understanding of the agency strategic direction and map in order to communicate accurately with their teams and other stakeholders. Aligns with agency wide communication plan and additional agency communication tools to effectively communicate with   people supported, families, Agency leadership, program leadership, managers and clinicians. Plans and leads managers meetings.
  7. Engages in meaningful and collaborative relationship management with other Agency directors and leaders.
  8. Takes pride in the Agency Compass plan. Leads team in meeting and exceeding compliance with the plan as well as providing feedback and insight into improvements/enhancements for the plan. Is actively engaged with the Agency’s Quality Measures plan.  
  9. Assures that services to people supported in the programs are provided with a person-centered approach that meets or exceeds the Home and Community Based Waiver Service requirements, OPWDD regulations, and applicable State and Federal laws.
  10. Promotes opportunities for self-advocacy within associated programs.
  11. Responsible for ensuring properties and the physical plant meet Heritage Christian quality standards. Coaches the associate directors in a manner that develops this knowledge consistently across our IRA’s.
  12. Along with Regional VP leads the team with the capital budgeting process.
  13. Assist in the development of the annual budget for residential and day services.
  14. Creates a positive culture of leadership development, succession planning, career paths and has a focus on engaging and retaining employees.
  15. Serves as a positive role model for direct support staff and individuals served. Interacts with others in a way which will assist direct support staff in developing behaviors, skills and attitudes necessary for success.
  16. Develops, in collaboration with team members, policies and procedures and assures that applicable policies and procedures are carried out.
  17. Oversee the coordination of individual’s admission, movements, and discharge for services.
  18. Other duties as deemed necessary.


  • Five years of experience in a leadership position within a human services field that provides services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field
  • Required to meet requirements as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP)
  • Demonstrates solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates respect in all matters related to diversity and inclusion, and treats people supported, families and co-workers equitably
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • A valid NYS driver’s license that is in compliance with Agency standards
