Overview

The Director of Learning and Professional Development will be responsible for leading the Agency’s education and professional development strategy through planning, creation and implementation of initiatives, programs and resources to effectively ensure high performance of Heritage Christian Services’ employees.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead, design, develop and implement agency wide learning and talent development programs, projects and initiatives. Assess effectiveness of current programs, conduct needs analysis, identify process improvements, and confer with leaders to determine and prioritize development needs.
  2. Drive and execute business specific leadership programs and other talent development initiatives that drive improved performance and achievement of organizational business objectives.
  3. Partner with service areas to identify and prioritize professional development needs. Research and select or design /develop leadership programs to address skill and competency gaps.
  4. Develop and maintain the employee development program in a strategic direction that aligns with the agency’s business goals.
  5. Apply knowledge of adult learning methodology to creation of development resources and programs, as well as, to determine best approach for delivery/implementation such as individual training, group training, on-line training, workshops, performance and development counseling and coaching for individuals, leaders and teams.
  6. Provide input into and/or identifies, select and use assessments to support leadership assessment, development planning and succession planning efforts.
  7. Participate in the assessment and selection of appropriate tools for competency and skills assessment, 360 feedback and other development needs.
  8. Partner with leaders to create career paths and performance management plans that identify talent mobility; opportunities within the organization and supports individualized professional development.
  9. Manage the design and implementation of training practices which emphasizes regulatory and contractual program requirements and promotes the qualitative enhancement of service delivery.
  10. Identify training needs and develops an annual training plan to ensure curricula and offerings meet the evolving needs of the organization.
  11. Deploy an effective Learning and Development communications strategy ensuring awareness and access around key offerings
  12. Provide training and evaluation to staff for responsibilities and decisions that are consistent with the scope of their capabilities, rules and regulations of regulatory authorities (where applicable), training, and policies of the organization. Provide oversight of direct support professional training and education including evaluation of DSP competencies.
  13. Supervise, manage and coach the Learning and Development team and provide support in the development of all training programs.
  14. Works within budget and acts as a good steward of agency funds.
  15. Collaborates with other provider agencies and trade associations at the regional, state and national level.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Instructional Design or Human Services; Master’s degree in similar field
  • 5+ years of experience in Learning and Development and/ or leadership development role; 3+ years of management experience.
  • Demonstrates solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate strategic and operational priorities into targeted learning goals and initiatives.
  • Ability to establish relationships with and influence networks of others whose participation and cooperation is needed for success with programs and actions; and over whom he/she has no formal authority.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding access, equity, diversity, inclusion, implicit bias, and institutional racism.
  • Must demonstrate excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail and follow-through required. Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and build effective working relationships with colleagues and staff. Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural, and spiritual practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities and have previous experience working independently and managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; experience with LMS such as Relias.
  • A valid NYS driver’s license that aligns with agency standards
