Overview

Working under the overall direction of the Coordinator of Prevocational Services, the skills coach will support people with disabilities in pursuing their employment and community involvement goals in accordance with the following responsibilities.  Supports the mission, vision, and values of Heritage Christian Services, Inc.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Support individuals, with a range of disabilities, in a variety of unpaid work experiences and instructional settings to develop independence and transferrable employment skills.
  2. Support individuals with learning to use public transportation, including but not limited to, public transportation ACCESS (paratransit service), Uber/ Lyft, or other options.
  3. Use a variety of teaching techniques in both group and individualized settings to assist participants with being successful in their unpaid work experience and community involvement.
  4. Develop and implement meaningful community- based experiences as directed by Coordinator
  5. Work with the person receiving services, business partners and natural supports, to help them build positive relationships.
  6. Complete and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
  7. Identify and implement any needed safeguards, to ensure the safety of the person receiving services.
  8. Maintain communication with the person receiving services, and members of their support team as needed.
  9. Maintain the privacy of the individual’s personal information in accordance with HIPAA; including storage of documentation.
  10. Attend all scheduled training required, which may include additional training at a partner agency in the Project SEARCH® program.
  11. Participate in staff meetings and staff training sessions. Implement new procedures as communicated by Coordinator of Prevocational Services.
  12. Facilitate relationships with businesses, mentors, and coworkers to improve the experience for people using our supports.
  13. To facilitate a philosophy within service delivery that supports: self-direction, community participation and contribution, commitment to equity and justice, productivity, and full citizenship.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalency; college experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license that is in compliance with Heritage Christian Services’ motor vehicle record standards, and reliable transportation to and from work
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work independently
  • Experience with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to effectively communicate with people with intellectual disabilities to support their growth and development
  • The ability to communicate with community business persons to facilitate relationships and optimize unpaid work experiences
  • The ability to adapt to a variety of work environments
  • Ability to effectively use technology to complete required documentation, communicate with team members, and facilitate learning.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Physical ability to be mobile and/or walking and standing for extended periods of time, including both indoors and outdoors, with or without reasonable accommodation
