Overview

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Director of Accounting and Finance directs and provides oversight to key accounting, finance and reporting functions within the organization, including the overall management and supervision of creation of policies and procedures to ensure internal controls, segregation of duties and systems are in place to support effective program implementation and to ensure successful audits. Oversees general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash accounting, financial statement reporting, external audit, tax filings and monitors budgeted expenditures. This role serves as the leader of the accounting team and is responsible for the direct management of the monthly and annual accounting and financial close cycles.  The Director of Accounting will be involved in supporting presentations to the Audit and Finance Committee and Board of Directors and assist the CFO and Corporate Controller with treasury and cash management duties.

 

The Director of Accounting and Finance will work closely with program leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations. In addition, the Director of Accounting and Finance will partner with the CFO and senior leadership and other cross-functional support departments including human resources (HR), payroll and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and support better integration of policies and procedures.

Pay for this position:  $83033 / yr - $110718 / yr

 

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above range represents the organization's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Corporate Controller in developing policies related to accounting, finance and operational management including the general ledger, cash management, resident accounts, revenue recognition, accounts payable, allocations, payroll, financial reporting, investments and budget
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations
  • Oversee general accounting and financial operations including the monthly close
  • Review and approve journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and provide profitably analysis and reporting through detailed analysis of general ledger activity
  • Coordinate and prepare all internal and external financial reports on a timely basis
  • Develop and prepare periodic financial operational dashboards
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures
  • Support the CFO in preparing material for the Board of Directors and various committees.
  • Planning, organizing and coordinating the year-end close process with external auditors and manage the annual financial statement and pension audit including serving as Management’s liaison to the external audit team during their preliminary and final on-site field work
  • Assist with responding to recommendations made by external auditors
  • Preparation and fair presentation of the financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, oversight of the preparation of IRS Form 990 and Consolidated Fiscal Reporting (CFR)
  • Conduct timely submissions of all federal and state tax filings
  • Assist the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis in developing annual operating budgets and forecasts
  • Assist with evaluating and implementing various accounting related software as needed
  • Provide leadership and support to direct reports through coaching, counseling and training; create and support a positive work environment
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, maintaining professional networks and participating in professional associations
  • Manage performance review process including review of performance goals and periodic reporting for staff
  • Support the accounting and reporting for the Agency’s Foundation: Oversee the accounting of grants and donations from the Foundation
  • Participate and supports variance project management teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA preferred
  • MBA or advanced degree in accounting, business, or finance preferred
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in accounting and audit required.
  • Healthcare, nonprofit or human services accounting experience preferred.
  • Supervisory or management experience in accounting or finance is required.

 

SKILLS:

Provide expert financial perspective and opinions; detail oriented; proficient in spreadsheet design to facilitate complex analysis; and instrumental in helping to assess risk, analyze efficiency and inform business decisions made by management. Ability to drive results in face-paced environment. Must possess strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
